The good news is that starting physical activity and attaining a healthier lifestyle may be easier than you think.
You're probably already doing active things in your daily life, such as housework, gardening and playing with children for instance. All these past times promote healthy living and count toward your daily dose of physical activity.
First, look at your daily routine and see what physical activity you already do and what improvements you can make for an even healthier lifestyle. An easy way to begin is to take the active option rather than the inactive option. For example, try to use the stairs rather than the elevator. At work, achieving a healthier lifestyle could mean taking a short walk at lunchtime, or walking part or all of the way to work. You could get off the bus a couple of stops earlier and walk the rest of the way. At this stage, you're really just starting to build physical activity into your daily routine.
These small healthy living changes can really make a difference to the way you feel. You should start to feel less tired and stressed and more alert throughout the day. Check out our section on the benefits of physical activity. Also remember to enjoy the activities that you do - this will be one sure way of keeping going.
