Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I use a humidifier?
People need a certain level of humidity to be comfortable. In the winter, indoor humidity can be extremely low, and the lack of humidity can dry out your skin and mucous membranes. Low humidity also makes the air feel colder than it actually is. Dry air can also dry out the wood in the walls and floors of our houses. As the drying wood shrinks, it can cause creaks in floors and cracks in drywall and plaster. Dry air also increases static electricity.
Does the product require regular cleaning?
Regular cleaning is recommended; approximately every 1–2 weeks (depending on use). When storing the unit, it is recommended to pour any excess water out and clean it with a soft, damp cloth. Let dry completely before storing.
Are there any wicks or evaporating pads to replace?
No. There are no wicks or pads to replace.
What is ultrasonic technology?
An ultrasonic humidifier uses a metal diaphragm vibrating at an ultrasonic frequency to create water droplets. Thanks to ultrasonic technology the Guardian Technologies™ humidifier is virtually silent when running, allowing you to keep it on while you sleep.
What is Silver Clean™ technology, and why is it used in your humidifier?
Unlike other humidifiers that grow slimy mold and mildew, the Guardian Technologies™ PureGuardian® 120-Hour Ultrasonic Digital Humidifier uses Silver Clean™ technology embedded in the tank to fight the growth of mold and mildew on the surface of the water tank.
Where should I use the product?
It is recommended that you place the product up and not on the floor. Placing it on a table or nightstand during operation is suggested.
*DO NOT PLACE UNIT DIRECTLY ON CARPET, TOWELS, BLANKETS OR OTHER ABSORBENT SURFACES.
What size room will the humidifier work in?
Thanks to the adjustable spray feature, this humidifier works well in both large and small rooms.
What is a comfortable humidity level?
Forty to fifty-five percent (40–55%) humidity is considered within the comfortable range. Any humidity level below thirty percent (30%) is considered dry.
How do I choose warm or cool humidification?
Choosing warm or cool humidification is based on your preference. Warm moisture tends to make the air in the room feel warmer due to the warm vapor being released into the air. In contrast, cool moisture generally has the opposite effect, causing the air to feel cooler.
Therefore, if you live in a warm climate, you may prefer a cool moisture humidifier, while those who live in colder climates may prefer a warm moisture humidifier.
Do I need to heat the water first if I want to have warm humidification?
No. It is recommended to put room temperature water into the tank for humidifying. The Guardian Technologies™ humidifier will heat and maintain the water temperature for warm humidification.
Do I need to put in a certain type of water for my humidifier to work?
You can use either distilled or regular tap water. If you have a high mineral content in your tap water, it may be preferable to use distilled water. Since distilled water is likely to contain lower mineral content than most tap water, it will prevent less build-up.
How long is the warranty?
The warranty is 3-years limited. For detailed warranty specifications please refer to the warranty section in the instruction manual.

RatingWonderful ,Silent, extremely efficient . Bought in Jan.2016 We use Reverse Osmosis water, no white dust, stays clean
We use on med, water last for 3-4 nights My husband refills it, as bit to heavy for me with over 2 gallons of water. No problems, very pleased!
RatingI am using an earlier model for years and I am very happy with the product ,so I decided to by one for the second room.
RatingWe bought this humidifier a month ago, and I must say, I really like it. We have had different Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifiers before, but this is the best so far. Like the fact that you can turn the night light off, it's very quite, and it runs for more than a day for each filling. Our only concern is the top handle (bottom handle is fine), it could have additional support so your hand does not feel like it is going to slip out of the cavity. You need to be careful when carrying a full tank by the top handle. Otherwise, great humidifier.
RatingWill humidify a large room. You do need to use distilled water or it leaves a fog and a film everywhere. It seems to last like it states between refills. It is very quiet

RatingThis long review is for the model #H4610.
Our house is around 3800 sq. ft. and has gas forced air heat. It's full of custom wood features (floors, trim, furniture) and musical instruments. It's also full of static in the months when it gets too dry. So, running humidifiers is a necessity to keep the wood things from cracking, our noses/sinuses from bleeding, our lips and skin from drying out, etc., in the winter and other months.
I've discovered I need to have a humidifier in almost every room. I had a large, free standing console style one when I lived in NM, but it was just too difficult to clean, and it grew mold easily. I had an Aprilaire whole house unit installed on the forced air furnace here, but it wastes a lot of water and it isn't easy to clean either. Plus, it doesn't really work that well, because when the furnace isn't running, there's no humidity being generated. Also, when that unit leaked, due to mineral buildup that clogged the water line, I didn't know about it for several days. What a mess in my utility room! So, it's room units for us from now on.
I bought my Pure Guardian 120 Hour unit at Costco, on sale. Excellent price! Should have bought more then,'cause I just broke the tank on an older Venta Sonic VS100 unit. So, it was back to Costco to buy more of the Pure Guardian ones. I bought several more this time, as the humidity is very low here now, struggling just to get to 20% with only 2 units running.
I wish I could run distilled water in my humidifiers, but since I have so many of them (now running 4 of them 24/7), I'd have to buy around 100 gallons of it a month, which is too costly, and where would I store all that water!?! So, I buy the demineralization filters made by Air-O-Swiss (there's silver in them to help stop bacteria from growing) and use filtered tap water. Luckily, my water isn't that hard (I've got a whole house water filter, which helps some). These are the best filters I've found that fit this unit, even better than the ones made for Pure Guardian. I buy them at Bed Bath & Beyond with coupons, so they are even better priced than online. For my Venta Sonic unit, I have to buy the Venta filters because the Air-O-Swiss ones don't fit, though they looked like they might, but alas, no.
Despite using the demineralization filters, I still need to descale the interior of the base unit every 2 weeks. I use either of two methods, plain white vinegar and water in a 50/50 mix, or citric acid powder and water. I bought some powdered food-grade citric acid online, which was much cheaper than the EZcal packets at BBB or online, or citric acid at the store. I mix this as follows: 1 oz citric acid to 4 cups of hot water. I pour the mix into the base to cover most of the parts and let it sit for an hour or so. Then pour it out and rinse the unit with several changes of clean water. I also sometimes invert the water tank onto the base to descale its undersides.
As for the design of this unit, I really don't care one way or another about the aesthetics. I have no use for the night light, so I never turn it on. As long as the unit works, I'm happy. I do like that the vapor nozzle has two holes to give more than one direction to mist out. However, I don't think this feature is uniquely superior.
VERY quiet. Even quieter than my 4 year old, Venta Sonic VS100 units, which was hard to believe as those are/were very quiet.
Large tank is easy to refill at the kitchen or laundry room sink.
Easy to clean both tank and base unit. According to Pure Guardian, the inside of the water tank has a some something called Silver Clean technology to fight mold and mildew on the interior of the tank.
Vapor nozzle is attached so you can't loose it.
Low water indicator light is very useful.
3 year warranty.
Short cord. I wish it were about 2 feet longer.
Warm mist is barely warm. According to the manual, it takes about 15 minutes to notice the heat, but honestly, it's not warm, just a tad warmer.
I run my units 24/7 on medium or high and I can honestly say they doesn't last 120 hours on either setting. I have to fill them every day, but then it's probably because it's been so very dry here in Colorado, even after the recent snow storm. The colder it is, the drier.
Carrying the base unit is awkward as it has no handles.
The water tank needs two handles on the sides, not one on the top and one on the underside, because it get a little heavy with 2 gallons of water (about 17 lbs.). However, it's not too bad, and considering all the types I've had over the last 35 years, no humidifier seems easy to fill.
Drips when I pick up the water tank to refill it, but then all ultrasonic water tanks seem to do this; so keep a cloth with you when go to refill it.
The vapor nozzle is not so easy to adjust after 2 months of use. I think it had some mineral building up on it. So, I removed it and cleaned it, and it's still difficult, but not as bad as before. Now that I figured out how to set it properly, I shouldn't need to adjust it again. I'll just need to remember to clean it too, when I clean the other parts.
Would I buy this again... yes! For the price, it's hard to beat. Other comparable units are much more expensive, and Costco's return policy is great, if I have problems.

RatingVery nice design. I have owned over 8 humidifiers.. most are junk.. a few stand out..this one is one of those... works very long (120 hours sounds right... warm but not hot mist..warms the water in tank..odd... love the nightlight feature and that you can put mist going in 2 ways.. not hard to clean... unless you use it for weeks straight and never clean it..even comes with a built in brush!
solid construction and well thought out. even attractive.. who would have thunk?

RatingI purchased my Pure Guardian 120 hour humidifier from Costo and paid about half the Amazon price. I read several reviews on Amazon before purchasing because the price seemed to good to be good. I'd like to address one of the criticisms I read then. Some people had a problem with leakage. I have not had this problem except for one day when I did not seat the tank properly. The 120 hours may work for a very small room, but tank lasts me about 48 hours set to warm and low, when I need to raise it to medium output, it lasts about 36 hours. The Honeywell I was using had to be filled twice a day and the shape of the Honeywell tank was very awkward for filling. The Pure Guardian tank is quite stable as long as you put the little dome where the steam comes out in the drain if the sink. It is really quiet except for the occasional bubble noise. It is a good size for setting on a table. I really like the product.

RatingWe both have sinus trouble and this terribly cold winter hasn't helped with the dryness of the furnace running all the time. This humidifier is adjustable for both spray and time and the large two gallon tank lasts a long time.

RatingI can't tell you how great it is ....just unbelievable ,compared to others that I have used...there is no powder mist..I only have to take a small brush that they supply, take a spoon of vinegar, and put it on the small disc, that cleans it...it takes 2minutes to accomplish ...clean the disc with the brush, and wipe out the vinegar, it's clean, and ready to go ..

RatingI really like my machine, it is easy to keep clean, doesn't make a lot of noise. I also bought the portable Accurate gage that indicate how much moisture and temperature of the room.

RatingI love this humidifier!!! Keeps the air but not wet. Makes breathing much easier especially if you have asthma or a cold. My Orchids love it too.

RatingAfter I have purchased this wonderful humidifier, the allergies are less and less and it have alleviated the discomfort of the heater in cold climates, we can actually breath better and have no dry throat anymore! I love this humidifier; you can control the time settings, the mist can be warm or cold and it holds a lot of water :)
RatingThis is an unbelievable humidifier. Not only does it not need refilling every day but it is so quiet you don't even hear it running. Different settings. Great buy. Best humidifier I have ever had.

RatingSimple to operate, quiet, and easy to refill. The tank is quite huge, and it works well in a small bedroom. The low setting is very low, I hardly see any vapor coming out, so I usually set it to medium. It's very quiet, except for the occasional gurgle. You can turn off the night light - I really have no use for it since I really only need the humidifier part, but it's a nice soft blue. Probably too bright for people who normally sleep with the lights off but it's not too harsh. I am not sure about the "120-hour claim" since I don't really need to top off the tank as I only use the humidifier when I sleep, but half a tank does last me throughout a couple 6-hour nights. I can't say much about the ease/frequency of cleaning as I've only used it for a couple weeks. The reservoir is easy to grip -- there is also a handle at the underside so you can carry it upside-down right after refilling it.
The only thing I am complaining about is very minor -- the item has a small cleaning brush that is attached to the underside of the reservoir -- well, supposedly. The brush keeps falling off so I just put it along the edge of the lower half of the unit rather than attach it to the reservoir. I don't know if that happens to others and maybe I just got a weird unit, but it's not a big deal to me. Also, when you refill, a few drops are to be expected to splash about so be careful. I'm used to refilling the inverted tank of our cat fountain so I'm used to it.

RatingTank does truly last 120 hours when kept on low. The machine makes very little noise. A great product; might buy another.
RatingI chose 5 stars because I appreciate not only the number of settings it has but also how QUIET it is. The mist settings are perfect and being able to direct the flow in two different directions is wonderful and and very useful. I would, however, suggest that place handles to facilitate safe moving. Thank you.

RatingI ordered two of these units. They are without a doubt the QUIETEST and most efficient humidifiers I have ever used. All but silent. I don't see how they can put out as much steam as they do without any sound.

RatingOur house (in the mountains of Southwestern Virginia) gets very dry in the winter, and we always set up a humidifier. It was time for a new one, and I did a lot of research before deciding on the Pure Guardian. One selling point was the 120-hour tank (even though many reviews said it didn't last that long), but a key reason for selecting this one was the claim that it was ultra-quiet (substantiated in several reviews). The humidifier arrived in perfect shape (thanks Amazon and UPS). It was easy to set up, and the tank filled easily and wasn't difficult carry when filled nor was it difficult to put onto the humidifier. The push-button controls are easy to understand and are well marked. As recommended in several posts, I also purchased a humidity meter (for under $10) and checked the humidity before turning the humidifier on. We turned it on medium (cool mist) and the humidifier worked as promised -- very, very quiet; humidity level went up 2% within a couple of hours; and the tank lasted 4-1/2 days before we refilled it (and it wasn't empty yet). Did I mention it was quiet? We might not have known it was on if it weren't for the little green indicator lights on the control panel. We use the nightlight once in a while, and it casts a calming, blue light in the room.
I'd highly recommend this humidifier.
RatingIt's our third humidifier, and it's by far the best! It's super quiet, it's on all night. I love the fact that you can turn the LED night light on or off, so you don't have to be covering it with a towel. All of the functions / buttons work great, they're just enough for what's needed - a low medium or high setting, cold/warm, etc. My favorite part is the double nozzle that you can turn so the vapor can go in two directions! Covers the room faster and it's not concentrated in one spot. You see this especially if you have it on a medium or high setting. This is a really really great feature.
