Frequently Asked Questions
What is UV-C?
UV-C is part of the ultra-violet light spectrum that is filtered out by the earth’s atmosphere. The “C” stands for the particular frequency of UV light that kills germs.
Why is UV-C so effective at destroying germs?
UV-C light is highly effective at penetrating thin-walled germs like viruses and bacteria. The light alters the genetic structure of the germs, and they die.
Why is UV-C used in hospitals to sanitize?
Hospitals use the UV-C light technology to kill germs in the air and on surfaces. UV-C has been proven to kill germs that cause: influenza, strep throat, colds, staph infections and tuberculosis.
Is this new technology?
No. UV-C has been used to kill germs for almost 100 years. The first usage was in France in 1909 to disinfect their water system. This technology is still used today in hospitals, commercial buildings and custom homes to kill germs.

RatingI am very impressed with the effectiveness of the Germ Guardian 18" wand. I didn't give it 5 stars because it is a little back breaking to use if you are sanitizing a low area.
When I took it to a hotel on vacation, I used it in the shower and could smell it killing the who knows what that was there. My pet toys, beds, personal hygiene items, computer, cell phones, remote controllers, cutting boards, countertops and many more surfaces are sanitized without the use of chemicals, YAH! I can now use pretty smelling surface cleaners and use the wand to get the down and dirty.
When I use the wand over areas that always harvest smells (basement drains) I can smell the burn of the elimination of germs.
I'm unsure what the other reviewers are so upset about, the wand does exactly what it was intended to do, kill germs. This technology is not new - just not advertised as much as money making cleaning products. I have a personal unit that uses uv-c light to sanitize water - had over 5 years.
The cord is convenient if using in the kitchen or bathroom, it's not very long so I do't use it much. Rechargeable batteries (4AA) get about 2 hours before needing to be changed. The battery cover was difficult to remove - use a Metric 3.0. The cover that supports the uv light uses a different sized screwdriver. No accidental removal of the wrong cover.
The built-in safety feature turns the light off if you tilt the wand too much. Exposure to skin and eyes is a no-no.
Of course, I purchased mine from Costco.com so no worries about malfunctioning unit or return policy.
Now with the outbreak of Swiine Flu, I use it even more!

RatingI read a lot about UV C so decided it was worth a try. Not easy to tell results as one cannot see the germs and more killed so one has to trust some. Its long (30 Inches) but that is good to me as it covers more area plus its light. Turns off automatically if you turn it over (Up) a nice feature. Can be battery or AC operated. Nice easy LCD controls. I am pleased by this. No problems with using it plus free shipping.

RatingIt's size makes it a little awkward to use, as does the time required but I keep it handy just in case.

RatingWe took this everywhere we traveled this past month and I guess the proof is in the fact that we didn't even get the sniffles (and we were in -22 degree weather!). Good vendor, good product!
RatingSo far this product is all that it is advertised to be. Great Product

RatingI have a room located at north, lack of sunshine. Hence, odor could easily build up. This wand really plays a wonder. After using the wand, the smell like that after a good sunshine and odor is gone. The only down side is that the power cord is a bit short. Thus, I have to use batteries, which are used up pretty quickly.
