How It Works
The Guardian Technologies™ PureGuardian® 120-Hour* Ultrasonic Digital Humidifier uses a metal diaphragm vibrating at an ultrasonic frequency to create water droplets that are expelled out into the room to help maintain the desired humidity level. An ultrasonic humidifier is virtually silent when operating.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I use a humidifier?
People need a certain level of humidity to be comfortable. In the winter, indoor humidity can be extremely low, and the lack of humidity can dry out your skin and mucous membranes. Low humidity also makes the air feel colder than it actually is. Dry air can also dry out the wood in the walls and floors of our houses. As the drying wood shrinks, it can cause creaks in floors and cracks in drywall and plaster. Dry air also increases static electricity.
Does the product require regular cleaning?
Regular cleaning is recommended; approximately every 1–2 weeks (depending on use). When storing the unit, it is recommended to pour any excess water out and clean it with a soft, damp cloth. Let dry completely before storing.
Are there any wicks or evaporating pads to replace?
No. There are no wicks or pads to replace.
What is ultrasonic technology?
An ultrasonic humidifier uses a metal diaphragm vibrating at an ultrasonic frequency to create water droplets. Thanks to ultrasonic technology the Guardian Technologies™ humidifier is virtually silent when running, allowing you to keep it on while you sleep.
What is Silver Clean™ technology, and why is it used in your humidifier?
Unlike other humidifiers that grow slimy mold and mildew, the Guardian Technologies™ PureGuardian® 120-Hour Ultrasonic Digital Humidifier uses Silver Clean™ technology embedded in the tank to fight the growth of mold and mildew on the surface of the water tank.
Where should I use the product?
It is recommended that you place the product up and not on the floor. Placing it on a table or nightstand during operation is suggested.
*DO NOT PLACE UNIT DIRECTLY ON CARPET, TOWELS, BLANKETS OR OTHER ABSORBENT SURFACES.
What size room will the humidifier work in?
Thanks to the adjustable spray feature, this humidifier works well in both large and small rooms.
What is a comfortable humidity level?
Forty to fifty-five percent (40–55%) humidity is considered within the comfortable range. Any humidity level below thirty percent (30%) is considered dry.
How do I choose warm or cool humidification?
Choosing warm or cool humidification is based on your preference. Warm moisture tends to make the air in the room feel warmer due to the warm vapor being released into the air. In contrast, cool moisture generally has the opposite effect, causing the air to feel cooler.
Therefore, if you live in a warm climate, you may prefer a cool moisture humidifier, while those who live in colder climates may prefer a warm moisture humidifier.
Do I need to heat the water first if I want to have warm humidification?
No. It is recommended to put room temperature water into the tank for humidifying. The Guardian Technologies™ humidifier will heat and maintain the water temperature for warm humidification.
Do I need to put in a certain type of water for my humidifier to work?
You can use either distilled or regular tap water. If you have a high mineral content in your tap water, it may be preferable to use distilled water. Since distilled water is likely to contain lower mineral content than most tap water, it will prevent less build-up.
How long is the warranty?
The warranty is 3-years limited. For detailed warranty specifications please refer to the warranty section in the instruction manual.

- Yes, I'd buy again!Review by J. Edison
Our house is around 3800 sq. ft. and has gas forced air heat. It's full of custom wood features (floors, trim, furniture) and musical instruments. It's also full of static in the months when it gets too dry. So, running humidifiers is a necessity to keep the wood things from cracking, our noses/sinuses from bleeding, our lips and skin from drying out, etc., in the winter and other months.
I've discovered I need to have a humidifier in almost every room. I had a large, free standing console style one when I lived in NM, but it was just too difficult to clean, and it grew mold easily. I had an Aprilaire whole house unit installed on the forced air furnace here, but it wastes a lot of water and it isn't easy to clean either. Plus, it doesn't really work that well, because when the furnace isn't running, there's no humidity being generated. Also, when that unit leaked, due to mineral buildup that clogged the water line, I didn't know about it for several days. What a mess in my utility room! So, it's room units for us from now on.
I bought my Pure Guardian 120 Hour unit at Costco, on sale. Excellent price! Should have bought more then,'cause I just broke the tank on an older Venta Sonic VS100 unit. So, it was back to Costco to buy more of the Pure Guardian ones. I bought several more this time, as the humidity is very low here now, struggling just to get to 20% with only 2 units running.
I wish I could run distilled water in my humidifiers, but since I have so many of them (now running 4 of them 24/7), I'd have to buy around 100 gallons of it a month, which is too costly, and where would I store all that water!?! So, I buy the demineralization filters made by Air-O-Swiss (there's silver in them to help stop bacteria from growing) and use filtered tap water. Luckily, my water isn't that hard (I've got a whole house water filter, which helps some). These are the best filters I've found that fit this unit, even better than the ones made for Pure Guardian. I buy them at Bed Bath & Beyond with coupons, so they are even better priced than online. For my Venta Sonic unit, I have to buy the Venta filters because the Air-O-Swiss ones don't fit, though they looked like they might, but alas, no.
Despite using the demineralization filters, I still need to descale the interior of the base unit every 2 weeks. I use either of two methods, plain white vinegar and water in a 50/50 mix, or citric acid powder and water. I bought some powdered food-grade citric acid online, which was much cheaper than the EZcal packets at BBB or online, or citric acid at the store. I mix this as follows: 1 oz citric acid to 4 cups of hot water. I pour the mix into the base to cover most of the parts and let it sit for an hour or so. Then pour it out and rinse the unit with several changes of clean water. I also sometimes invert the water tank onto the base to descale its undersides.
As for the design of this unit, I really don't care one way or another about the aesthetics. I have no use for the night light, so I never turn it on. As long as the unit works, I'm happy. I do like that the vapor nozzle has two holes to give more than one direction to mist out. However, I don't think this feature is uniquely superior.
VERY quiet. Even quieter than my 4 year old, Venta Sonic VS100 units, which was hard to believe as those are/were very quiet.
Large tank is easy to refill at the kitchen or laundry room sink.
Easy to clean both tank and base unit. According to Pure Guardian, the inside of the water tank has a some something called Silver Clean technology to fight mold and mildew on the interior of the tank.
Vapor nozzle is attached so you can't loose it.
Low water indicator light is very useful.
3 year warranty.
Short cord. I wish it were about 2 feet longer.
Warm mist is barely warm. According to the manual, it takes about 15 minutes to notice the heat, but honestly, it's not warm, just a tad warmer.
I run my units 24/7 on medium or high and I can honestly say they doesn't last 120 hours on either setting. I have to fill them every day, but then it's probably because it's been so very dry here in Colorado, even after the recent snow storm. The colder it is, the drier.
Carrying the base unit is awkward as it has no handles.
The water tank needs two handles on the sides, not one on the top and one on the underside, because it get a little heavy with 2 gallons of water (about 17 lbs.). However, it's not too bad, and considering all the types I've had over the last 35 years, no humidifier seems easy to fill.
Drips when I pick up the water tank to refill it, but then all ultrasonic water tanks seem to do this; so keep a cloth with you when go to refill it.
The vapor nozzle is not so easy to adjust after 2 months of use. I think it had some mineral building up on it. So, I removed it and cleaned it, and it's still difficult, but not as bad as before. Now that I figured out how to set it properly, I shouldn't need to adjust it again. I'll just need to remember to clean it too, when I clean the other parts.
Would I buy this again... yes! For the price, it's hard to beat. Other comparable units are much more expensive, and Costco's return policy is great, if I have problems. (Posted on 5/29/2014)

The only thing I am complaining about is very minor -- the item has a small cleaning brush that is attached to the underside of the reservoir -- well, supposedly. The brush keeps falling off so I just put it along the edge of the lower half of the unit rather than attach it to the reservoir. I don't know if that happens to others and maybe I just got a weird unit, but it's not a big deal to me. Also, when you refill, a few drops are to be expected to splash about so be careful. I'm used to refilling the inverted tank of our cat fountain so I'm used to it. (Posted on 5/29/2014)
